Kuantan, Pahang

MY MEMORIES IN KUANTAN AND PEKAN

Let me share this, We were in Pekan and Kuantan for few days. It's was hustle free town compared to Kuala Lumpur. We arrived in Kuantan on the 24  Dec. about 8pm checked into our Hotel that we booked online. As usual looked very impressive on line but when we walked in, it was not. Being late we decided to stay on and requested for an upgrade the next day.

Kuantan

Pekan

We had to travel very early in the morning to Pekan. We left Kuantan at 6.30am. The weather was cool and beautiful. There was almost no traffic, because it was the awakening day of Christmas....  The birds were just coming out of their homes to catch the late worms which were crawling back home after spending chritmas eve with all their friends.

It was almost 40 kilometers to Pekan. To my surprise, the road leading to Pekan was the most expensive road I can imagine because it had decorative center street lights throughout the whole stretch of 40 kilometers. It was amazing experience for me, specially it was still lighted up all along the road. I was enchanted with the beauty of the road and the the amazing cool county side.. Driving and cutting through the early morning fresh air.. the car was slicing the air in two and I could feel the separating air gushing both our windscreens... Another unique feature of this Kuantan Pekan highway was, it was well planed and it had u turn facilities every 5 kilometers, in case you miss a turn. A very memorable and pleasant drive.

Now for dinner , being vegetarians it is sometimes difficult to find a proper palce to eat. we decide to walk around instead of driving to look around for restaurants that serve vegetarian food even mamak stalls were ok for us. That's where we came across this Alif curry house along Jalan Mahkota. We walked in strait to see if they had any vegetarian food. To my surprise they had a separate counters for vegetarian and non vegetarian. They did have many varieties too, which we rarely find in most mamak restaurants. It was about 9pm and the shop was almost full...one look around there were Chinese, Malays and Indians having their dinner. What I noticed to my astonishment and surprise, most of them were having banana leaf rice with fried chicken, I suppose this is the speciality in Kuantan. We too had banana leaf vegetarian food and the service was prompt. The staff were friendly and the food was above average 8/10. So, vegetarians please note that this is one place you cannot miss.

This shot was taken after our food and the crowd had left.

2 day we decided to venture into Chinese vegetarian food in Kuantan....we drove around with the help of the GPS , we found this shop. It is located along Jalan Bukit Ubi.
We had butter prawns, actually made from flour,  veg. fish curry rice and tom yam mee. The butter prawns came in a big portion and were very crispy and delicious. The tom yam was also good the flavors were mild and not too spicy. The veg. Curry fish rice also was good. My verdict 9/10, looking for Chinese vegetarian food here is the place. Pobably there are also other places too. We were happy because it is not easy to find nice vegetarian restaurants.
